About

Palaeoplushies are a range of scientifically accurate soft toys, designed and handmade by Rebecca Groom since 2014.

Rebecca’s aim is to share enthusiasm for lesser-appreciated extinct and extant creatures which you wouldn’t typically find depicted as plushies.

They are made by hand in small batches by both Rebecca and her sister Sarah. Designs often go out of stock, but will re-stock eventually, particularly if they are popular.

Reconstructions of extinct creatures are based off of the latest palaeontological knowledge with a dose of informed speculation. Designs are often created with the direct support and advice of the scientists involved in studying the species in question.

This website also features products designed by Rebecca but manufactured by other companies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you post to?

Palaeoplushies are made in the UK but are posted worldwide via the Royal Mail.

How much is shipping?

Shipping costs are calculated upon checkout based on weight and postage is combined for multiple items if you order them all at once!

Shipping inside the UK is free! (I foot the bill)

Will I have to pay customs fees?

Palaeoplushies is based in the UK and does not collect taxes upon checkout. Orders to anywhere outside of the UK will need to go through customs and may incurr import fees which will vary depending on the country you are importing them to.
Orders to the USA below 800USD do not incur customs fees.
Customs fees now applies to EU countries, as the UK is (sadly) no longer part of the EU.

Are parcels tracked?

All International Parcels are sent via a tracked service as default. You will get an email once they have shipped (usually within 7 days) with the tracking number.

Where’s my order?

I try to get all orders fulfilled and posted within a week of the order being placed. I'm based in the UK and so international shipping is meant to take 7-10 working days, but sometimes more. If you haven’t received the order and you’re worried about it, get in touch!

When will you get X item back in stock?

Short answer: I’m not sure!
Long answer: I (Rebecca Groom) am an independent artist in more ways than one and tend to make things on a bit of a whim. Plushies are made by hand in small batches- they sell out quickly!

The more interest there is in certain items the more likely I am to make them, and the way I can tell people want something is if they sign up for the waitlist/restock notifications.

If you want to be notified when an item is back in stock, there’s a sign-up option on every “sold out” listing. You will only receive one notification next time it’s in stock, if you miss it, you’ll have to sign up again. Your email isn’t used for anything other than the 1 notification.

Do you take commissions?

No, Unless it is for Sci-Comm work, in which case I would love to help you out! Got a model organism you'd like to show folks "in person"? I can do that!

If you’re a museum or researcher looking for something for use in outreach, I would love to hear from you! Please contact me using the following form: Contact Me

Can I reserve a plush?

I cannot reserve plushies for people, take payment in advance or personally email/notify individuals when things restock.

Can I suggest an animal for you to make?

Suggest away, my friend! I’m happy to hear people’s suggestions and ideas. Use this form to contact me!

I can’t guarentee I’ll make the animal you request, but I’ll add it to “The List”. I keep a list of every suggestion I’ve ever had, and when I make a new plushie I pull it from The List. I’ll let you know if/when I make it!
